Bio

At three months old Michael moved to Jamaica where he lived sixteen years before returning to New York City, surrounded by flora, fauna, green grass, green birds and blue mountain peaks; and this experience helped shape not only his views on the world of people, but also on the world of space, texture, color and composition.

His more erudite influences include Anselm Kiefer, Robert Motherwell, Gerdhard Richter, Franz Klein, each of whom in their way sought the common ground between western-style intellectualism and eastern-style spiritualism , as well as the intersection of abstraction and representation in painting, all salient issues for Andreev. The abstract forms that emerge as dark silhouettes from his wood and metal panels express a conceptual landscape of pattern and form. The union of these elements, unrelated prior to the moment of conception, develops as a new relationship in which to discover meaning.

Andreev's works have been received by actress Susan Sarandon, Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkin’s), and Michael Stipe (REM), along with work shown at the Whitney Museum  and collected by the Library Of Congress.

SYMBOLIC OBSERVATIONS New Paintings: Coffee on Paper
TISSERIE GALLERY CAFE at DKNY SOHO
420 WEST BROADWAY & 96 THOMPSON
March 12 - continuing - Reception April 17, 5-7:30 pm; Urban Zen Foundation fundraiser Friday, August 7, 2009

Michael Ricardo Andreev "Coffee on Paper"Tisserie Cafe and Gallery is pleased to present this inaugural exhibition in the landmark art building 420 West Broadway.
Michael Ricardo Andreev is a painting master with awards and distinctions in various art media. Andreev definitely knows about great coffee growing up near the Blue Mountain Peaks of Kingston, Jamaica around family members such as Peter Tosh of the Wailers.
He is an aesthetic savant whose new series of paintings with coffee on paper have been touted as evocative meditations on life in the 21st Century. He is a refined abstract pop minimalist along with co-stars Andrea Stanislav, Ezra Talmatch and Vangeline.
Andreev has opened more than 40 solo exhibitions internationally and more than 180 group shows. He is a highly regarded curator and writer whose "Recent Observations" will be published by Clear Inc. this Fall. He is widely collected by the cognoscenti and esteemed public and private collections as well as the art collecting elite at large.
This exhibition curated by Abby Singh is a rare opportunity to purchase Andreev's leaping art star. It is an up close and casual place to look, smell, and possibly taste one of Ricardo's master works. As he likes to point out-"if you get tired you can lick 'em." MRA has a BFA from SVA. Keep an eye out for MRA in the 2010 Whitney Biennial.
This exhibit is a part of events on Donna Karan's Urban Zen Foundation website.
In association with Jonathan Shorr Gallery, Tisserie Gallery Cafe in DKNY SOHO, is pleased to present this one of a kind exhibition of Andreev's latest creations outside of a gallery or museum.
Works are available on commission.
